Bitcoin Miners for Spain

What a Spanish buyer needs to know before importing Bitcoin mining hardware: the 230/400 V supply and household circuit limits, cooling through hot, dry summers, and how import VAT is handled.

Voltage and electrical supply in Spain

Spain's low-voltage regulation (REBT, Royal Decree 842/2002) sets the usual supply at 230 V between phase and neutral and 400 V between phases on four-wire three-phase networks, at 50 Hz. Sockets are Type C and F. The Schuko (Type F) socket is rated 16 A, and in homes the general-purpose socket circuit is protected at 16 A and may serve up to 20 sockets.

A 16 A socket at 230 V carries at most 3.68 kW, which leaves no margin for a 3–3.6 kW miner running around the clock, and some models need more: Bitmain's S21 XP draws 3,645 W and lists a 20 A single-phase input current. A miner needs its own dedicated circuit, for example with a 32 A IEC 60309 industrial socket.

Under the REBT, distributors must, when asked, supply any single-phase appliance of up to 5,750 W at 230 V, up to a single-phase supply of 14,490 W. Hydro-cooled models such as the S21 XP Hyd need 380–415 V three-phase, which a 400 V three-phase supply provides. Confirm supply capacity with the distributor and the installation with a qualified electrician.

Cooling for the Spanish climate

Spain's climate is highly diverse, with 13 Köppen climate types. The hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Csa), with dry, hot summers and mild, wet winters, dominates the peninsula; warm-summer Mediterranean (Csb), semi-arid (BSk) and oceanic (Cfb) climates are the other main types.

Summer heat is the main constraint for air cooling. Bitmain rates the S21 XP for 45 °C intake air at most, and above 900 m the maximum falls by 1 °C for every 300 m of altitude up to 2,000 m. Sites in Csa and BSk areas should plan for shaded, ducted intake drawn from the coolest side of the building, or consider hydro-cooled models. Intake humidity must stay within 10–90%, non-condensing.

Bitcoin mining in Spain

Spain does not appear in the Cambridge Digital Mining Industry Report (April 2025), whose survey of 49 mining firms, with data as of 30 June 2024, recorded mining activity in 23 countries. The survey covered about 48% of network hashrate, and its authors note that a respondent base centred on the United States may under-represent activity elsewhere. Cambridge's earlier Bitcoin Mining Map, built from mining-pool data, was last updated in January 2022.

How purchasing works

Orders are handled the same way for every destination and scale with quantity:

  • 1–4 units: online checkout on products that show a price and a confirmed availability status.
  • 5–19 units: checkout or a volume quote.
  • 20 units and above: a wholesale quotation covering unit price, batch, freight and delivery terms.
  • 100 units and above, or a full site: handled by mining sales as a procurement project.

Where a product shows "Availability on request" or "Available", stock is not held in a warehouse; lead time is confirmed on your quotation.

Shipping to Spain

Importing into Spain

Imports into Spain are cleared by the Agencia Tributaria (AEAT), through its Department of Customs and Excise (Departamento de Aduanas e Impuestos Especiales). The general rate of VAT (IVA) is 21%. Import IVA is assessed by the administration at clearance; under certain conditions a registered business can opt to pay it through its periodic VAT return instead. Customs requires a guarantee covering the customs debt and other charges, including IVA, before the goods are released.

An EORI number is mandatory for customs operations in the EU, and operators established in the EU register in the member state where they are established. Under the EU's common customs rules the country of origin determines the duty payable, so duty depends on classification and origin. Electrical equipment rated between 50 and 1,000 V AC falls under the EU Low Voltage Directive.

Infrastructure for larger deployments

Beyond a few machines, the miners are one line of the bill of materials. Transformers, switchgear, PDUs, racking, cooling and containers are specified around the miner model and the site's supply voltage, and can be quoted as one procurement scope.
