Proto belongs to Block, Inc. (NYSE: XYZ), the company behind Square and Cash App; Proto and the Proto logo are Block trademarks. Block unveiled Proto Rig and Proto Fleet on August 14, 2025, at an event at Core Scientific's facility in Dalton, Georgia, following an initial sale of its mining chips to Core Scientific. Block gives Proto's mission as decentralizing mining by increasing access to tools for builders.

Proto products

Proto Rig is a Bitcoin mining system that is air-cooled and ready for immersion. One chassis holds nine replaceable hashboards. Proto rates each board at up to 91 TH/s, for up to 819 TH/s with nine boards, with power draw at the wall of up to 12,000 W (4,000 W per power supply) and efficiency as low as 14.1 J/TH. The chassis measures 390 × 290 × 500 mm, weighs 110 lb with nine hashboards and takes 208–240 V AC. Proto says hashboards can be swapped for upgrades and fans replaced on the rack without tools.

Proto Fleet is open-source mining management software that Proto says works with its own machines and with those of most major manufacturers.
