What makes a miner suitable for home use

Industrial ASIC miners are built for data halls. A home miner trades hashrate for three things:

  • Noise low enough to share a building with people. Compare the dB rating on each product page.
  • Power draw that fits a normal domestic circuit, with headroom for everything else on it.
  • Mains compatibility: check the input voltage range on the product page against your country's supply (for example 120 V in North America, 230 V in most of Europe).

Setting expectations

A home miner produces a small fraction of the hashrate of an industrial unit, so output is correspondingly small. Many owners value them as a way to learn, to run their own hashrate, or to make use of the heat. Use the calculator with your actual electricity price before buying; residential power is often more expensive than the rates industrial miners pay.
