Bitcoin Miners for the Netherlands

What a buyer in the Netherlands needs to know before importing an ASIC miner: the 230/400 V supply, connection capacity and grid congestion, cooling in a humid maritime climate, customs and import VAT.

Voltage and electrical supply in Netherlands

The Dutch supply is 230/400 V at 50 Hz: 230 V phase to neutral, 400 V between phases. Sockets are types C and F. The type F (Schuko) socket is rated 16 A and the flat type C Europlug only 2.5 A. A large air-cooled miner drawing 3–3.6 kW at 230 V takes roughly 13–16 A continuously, close to the full rating of a type F socket, so it needs a dedicated circuit, preferably with an IEC 60309 industrial connector (blue for 200–250 V; 16 A and 32 A are common ratings).

Air-cooled miners with a 200–240 V input run phase to neutral and can be spread over the three phases. Hydro-cooled miners specified for 380–415 V three-phase match the 400 V line-to-line voltage.

The size of the grid connection sets the ceiling. Grid operator Liander lists a 3 × 25 A connection at 17 kW and the largest it lists, 3 × 80 A, at 55 kW. Increasing a connection can take time: Stedin reports grid congestion in more and more areas of the country, and in congested areas requests for (extra) power from businesses with connections up to 3 × 80 A go on a waiting list. Check capacity with the grid operator before buying, and use a qualified electrician.

Cooling for the Dutch climate

The Netherlands has a temperate, marine climate with cool summers and mild winters; prevailing south-westerly winds bring maritime air and typically high humidity. That suits air cooling for most of the year, but the humid air needs attention in the intake and filter design.

The national weather service KNMI gives a national summer average of 17.3 °C (1991–2020). Extremely warm days of 35 °C or more, once rare, now occur in just over half of all years. The national record is 40.7 °C, measured at Gilze-Rijen on 25 July 2019, and in June 2026 KNMI measured 39.4 °C at Ell. Air-cooled sites should be designed for those peaks, with derating, evaporative assistance or hydro cooling in reserve. Early in summer the cold sea keeps coastal temperatures lower than inland.

Bitcoin mining in Netherlands

The Netherlands does not appear as a mining location in the most recent survey evidence. The Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) Digital Mining Industry Report of April 2025, based on survey data as of 30 June 2024 from firms representing about 48% of network hashrate, listed the Netherlands among the countries where respondents had their headquarters, but not among the 23 countries where respondents reported mining operations. It found European activity concentrated in the Nordic countries, led by Norway.

Rules for mining in Netherlands

The EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 of 31 May 2023, which applies from 30 December 2024, sets requirements for offering and trading crypto-assets and for crypto-asset service providers. Its recital 93 states that the crypto-asset transfer service it regulates should not include the miners that confirm transactions. In the Netherlands, providers of crypto-asset services such as exchange or custody need a licence or notification from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM).

Grid congestion, described in the electrical section, can also limit new or larger connections for a mining site.

How purchasing works

Orders are handled the same way for every destination and scale with quantity:

  • 1–4 units: online checkout on products that show a price and a confirmed availability status.
  • 5–19 units: checkout or a volume quote.
  • 20 units and above: a wholesale quotation covering unit price, batch, freight and delivery terms.
  • 100 units and above, or a full site: handled by mining sales as a procurement project.

Where a product shows "Availability on request" or "Available", stock is not held in a warehouse; lead time is confirmed on your quotation.

Shipping to Netherlands

Standard shipping to Netherlands is free on every order. If you need it faster, choose express shipping at checkout and we quote it before payment is requested.

Importing into Netherlands

Dutch Customs (Douane) clears imports from outside the EU. Import VAT is paid to Customs with the import declaration at the general rate of 21 percent. A business holding an Article 23 licence from the Tax and Customs Administration can instead declare the import VAT in its VAT return and then pays no VAT to Customs at import.

An EORI number is needed when you first submit a customs declaration or have one submitted on your behalf, and to apply for a customs authorisation. It is allocated by the EU member state in which the business is established.

Customs duty depends on the tariff classification of the goods and their country of origin.

Infrastructure for larger deployments

Beyond a few machines, the miners are one line of the bill of materials. Transformers, switchgear, PDUs, racking, cooling and containers are specified around the miner model and the site's supply voltage, and can be quoted as one procurement scope.
