Market · 120/240 V split-phase, 120/208 V and 277/480 V three-phase, 60 Hz
US supply is 60 Hz. Homes receive 120/240 V split-phase; commercial and industrial buildings are usually supplied at 120/208 V or 277/480 V three-phase.
Almost no industrial miner runs on a 120 V outlet. Air-cooled miners with a 200–240 V input run on a 240 V residential circuit or line-to-line on a 208 V system. Models whose input range extends to 277 V can be connected line-to-neutral on a 277/480 V system, which is why large US facilities favour them: no step-down transformer is needed between the 480 V distribution and the miner.
Hydro-cooled models are commonly specified for 380–415 V three-phase, which is not a standard US service voltage. US hydro deployments typically use transformers with a 415 V secondary, or container systems built with that conversion included. Check the input range on each product page.

The US spans every climate a mining site can face. Air cooling suits northern and high-plains sites for most of the year. Sites in the South and Southwest must design for summer peaks; evaporative assistance, hydro cooling and immersion are widely used there. Noise ordinances also matter for air-cooled sites near residential areas.

The United States is the largest mining location in recent survey evidence. The Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) Digital Mining Industry Report of April 2025, based on survey data as of 30 June 2024 from firms representing about 48% of network hashrate, attributed 75.4% of respondents' mining activity to the United States, while cautioning that United States activity may be overstated in its sample and that other sources suggest a much lower share of 36%.
In February 2024 the Energy Information Administration estimated that cryptocurrency mining probably accounts for 0.6% to 2.3% of national electricity consumption. It had identified 137 mining facilities in 21 states, most in Texas, Georgia and New York, and reported operators relocating to gain a larger share of renewable energy and a Pennsylvania operation supplied directly by an adjacent nuclear plant.
New York: on 22 November 2022 the state enacted chapter 628 of 2022, which for two years from its effective date barred the Department of Environmental Conservation from issuing new air permits, or renewals that increase mining load, for power plants burning carbon-based fuel that supply behind-the-meter electricity to proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining. It also required a generic environmental impact statement on such operations.
Texas: the grid operator ERCOT runs a "Batch Zero" interconnection process for large loads. Facilities of 75 MW or more are directed to a specific eligibility path, and a new standalone large load needs an approved ERCOT form before it can be energised.
Federal: on 1 February 2024 the Energy Information Administration announced an emergency survey of cryptocurrency miners' electricity use, planned to run from February to July 2024; it has since discontinued that collection.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) clears imports. The importer of record is ultimately responsible for the correctness of the entry documentation and for all applicable duties, taxes and fees. CBP does not require a licence or permit to import, although other agencies may require a permit, licence or other certification depending on the commodity. Many importers use a customs broker; brokers are licensed by CBP but are not CBP employees.
In its rulings CBP has classified cryptocurrency miners under heading 8543 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (electrical machines and apparatus having individual functions), for example HQ H310388 of 28 July 2020. The current tariff text and duty rates are published by the U.S. International Trade Commission. Trade-remedy measures enforced by CBP, such as Section 301 duties on certain products from China, can add to the duty, so the total depends on classification and origin and changes over time.
Beyond a few machines, the miners are one line of the bill of materials. Transformers, switchgear, PDUs, racking, cooling and containers are specified around the miner model and the site's supply voltage, and can be quoted as one procurement scope.
