Bitcoin Miners for Iceland

ASIC miners for operators and home miners in Iceland, on 230/400 V 50 Hz supply, with notes on cooling, import charges and the national power company's policy on crypto mining.

Voltage and electrical supply in Iceland

Iceland's nominal low-voltage supply is 230/400 V at 50 Hz, and household sockets are types C and F (Schuko). A Schuko socket is rated at 16 A, while a large air-cooled miner drawing 3–3.6 kW takes roughly 13–16 A at 230 V, without a break. That leaves no margin on a household socket, so a miner of that size belongs on its own dedicated circuit with a fixed connection or an industrial IEC 60309 connector: blue fittings are the 200–250 V type and come in 16 A and 32 A ratings.

Air-cooled miners with a 200–240 V or 220–277 V input connect line-to-neutral at 230 V. Hydro-cooled models specified for 380–415 V three-phase match a 400 V three-phase supply directly; red IEC 60309 fittings are the 380–480 V type.

Power for larger loads is the harder question in Iceland. Landsvirkjun, the national power company, said in 2023 and 2024 that its system was fully committed and that it does not sell firm power for crypto mining, so check what supply is actually available for your site with your distribution company before buying hardware, and have a licensed electrician design and install the circuits.

Cooling for the Icelandic climate

The Icelandic Meteorological Office describes a climate much milder than Iceland's name and latitude suggest: a branch of the Gulf Stream along the south and west coasts moderates it, but the meeting of mild Atlantic and cold Arctic air brings frequent changes in weather and storms, with more rain in the south and west than in the north. Even in midsummer the air is usually cool.

For air cooling, cool outside air is available all year, and Landsvirkjun, the national power company, cites the cold climate as a reason Iceland suits data centres. The design problems are wind-driven rain and storms, so intakes need weather protection and filtration; where intake air falls below the minimum operating temperature manufacturers publish, sites recirculate part of the exhaust to temper it.

Bitcoin mining in Iceland

Cambridge's April 2025 Digital Mining Industry Report, a survey of 49 mining firms weighted by power use, put Iceland at 0.27% of reported mining activity as of 30 June 2024; Cambridge cautions that its country percentages need careful interpretation.

Iceland's power system runs entirely on renewable sources; Landsvirkjun generates from hydropower, geothermal energy and wind. Some Icelandic data centres hosted a significant amount of crypto mining, but in December 2024 Landsvirkjun said its sales to data centres had fallen to a third of their 2022 level and that crypto was on its way out as data centres turned to AI and high-performance computing. By June 2026, data centres used about 70 MW, roughly 3.5% of Iceland's power consumption.

Rules for mining in Iceland

Landsvirkjun, the national power company, has set out its own policy on crypto mining. In June 2023 it wrote that it does not sell firm (priority) power for crypto mining and has rejected all such requests since 2021; it had sold only curtailable surplus power to mining data centres, on short contracts of a few months. In November 2023 it curtailed that interruptible supply to data centres engaged in crypto mining, along with fishmeal plants, for an open-ended period because of low reservoir levels. In November 2024 it said it had cut sales to data centres by about 50% to reduce crypto mining further.

How purchasing works

Orders are handled the same way for every destination and scale with quantity:

  • 1–4 units: online checkout on products that show a price and a confirmed availability status.
  • 5–19 units: checkout or a volume quote.
  • 20 units and above: a wholesale quotation covering unit price, batch, freight and delivery terms.
  • 100 units and above, or a full site: handled by mining sales as a procurement project.

Where a product shows "Availability on request" or "Available", stock is not held in a warehouse; lead time is confirmed on your quotation.

Shipping to Iceland

Standard shipping to Iceland is free on every order. If you need it faster, choose express shipping at checkout and we quote it before payment is requested.

Importing into Iceland

Imports are handled by Skatturinn (Iceland Revenue and Customs). Iceland is not in the European Union, and the Icelandic customs authorities do not issue EORI numbers.

Import charges are payable to Skatturinn at import under the Icelandic customs tariff, and include customs duties, excise duties and value added tax, along with other charges that may apply to particular goods. The standard VAT rate is 24 percent. Under the Customs Act no. 88/2005, companies that import goods must file customs declarations electronically; importers with 12 or fewer shipments a year may file on paper.

Any duty depends on how the goods are classified in the customs tariff and on their origin, and is set at clearance.

Infrastructure for larger deployments

Beyond a few machines, the miners are one line of the bill of materials. Transformers, switchgear, PDUs, racking, cooling and containers are specified around the miner model and the site's supply voltage, and can be quoted as one procurement scope.
