Bitcoin Miners for Nigeria

Nigeria's nominal low-voltage supply is 230/400 V at 50 Hz: 230 V single-phase and 400 V three-phase line-to-line. Two British socket types are used: the round-pin type D, rated 5 A, and the type G (BS 1363), rated 13 A. Neither suits a miner drawing 3–3.6 kW, which takes about 13–16 A at 230 V continuously; give each miner a dedicated 16 A or 32 A circuit with an industrial socket or a hard-wired PDU.

Air-cooled miners with a 200–240 V or 220–277 V input run line-to-neutral at 230 V. Hydro-cooled miners specified for 380–415 V three-phase match the 400 V supply directly.

Grid supply hours vary by feeder: feeders in the regulator's Band A must deliver at least 20 hours of supply a day. Large users have another route. Under the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission's Eligible Customer Regulations, a customer consuming at least 2 MWh/h over a month and connected at 33 kV or 132/330 kV can apply for a permit to buy power directly from a generating company. Confirm supply hours, capacity and the connection with the distribution company and a licensed electrician.

Nigeria runs from a tropical monsoon climate in the far south through tropical savanna across much of the centre and south to hot semi-arid and hot desert climates in the north (Köppen Am, Aw, BSh and BWh). The hottest months are March to May, when northern readings can pass 42 °C. The dry season brings the harmattan, a dusty north-easterly wind: in January 2023 the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecast thick dust haze over Yobe, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa, with visibility below 1,000 m, and cold nights. Average relative humidity is far higher in the south (about 87% at Benin City) than in the north (about 32% at Kano).

For air cooling, northern sites need intake air kept below the miner's published maximum in the hot season and filtration that copes with harmattan dust, with filters cleaned often. In the humid south the concern is moisture and condensation on the hashboards.

At the end of March 2025 the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that the President had signed the Investments and Securities Act 2025, which repeals the 2007 Act. The new Act classifies digital assets and cryptocurrencies as securities and gives the SEC authority over crypto exchanges and other virtual asset service providers. A separate 2023 Central Bank of Nigeria rule lets banks serve virtual asset providers only if they are licensed by the SEC. Check with the SEC whether a mining business falls under these rules.

Orders are handled the same way for every destination and scale with quantity:

Goods are cleared by the Nigeria Customs Service through the national single window (the B'odogwu platform). The Nigeria Trade Single Window sets out the steps. First-time importers incorporate with the Corporate Affairs Commission, register with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) for a tax identification number and register on the single window. A Form M is opened through a bank on the same platform. Certificates are applied for on the platform, including standards compliance under the Standards Organisation of Nigeria's SONCAP programme where the product needs it. A Pre-Arrival Assessment Report is obtained from Customs before the goods declaration is filed.

VAT is charged at 7.5% where applicable. Since 1 January 2026 it is governed by the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, and the NRS, which replaced the Federal Inland Revenue Service, assesses and collects federal revenue. Customs duties depend on the goods' HS classification and origin, and further levies apply.

Beyond a few machines, the miners are one line of the bill of materials. Transformers, switchgear, PDUs, racking, cooling and containers are specified around the miner model and the site's supply voltage, and can be quoted as one procurement scope.
