The WhatsMiner M60S, M60S+ and M60S++ are air-cooled Bitcoin miners from MicroBT's M60 series. They share one chassis and differ mainly in efficiency: MicroBT's datasheets give 18.5, 17 and 15.5 J/T respectively. Each model is sold in one or more hashrate versions, written as a suffix such as 186T. The model figures below are MicroBT-published values, not measurements, and anything derived from them is labelled as derived.
Key points
- More plus signs means lower J/TH in MicroBT's datasheets: M60S 18.5, M60S+ 17, M60S++ 15.5, each ±5% at 25 °C.
- The number after the name is hashrate in TH/s. MicroBT's shop lists the M60S at 184T, 186T and 188T, the M60S+ at 200T and the M60S++ at 218T.
- The shop versions with a published power figure draw 3,379–3,478 W, so their power bills are nearly the same. The M60S++ turns that power into the most hashrate.
- Input is AC 220–240 V, so a standard 120 V outlet is outside the published range. A qualified electrician sizes the circuit.
- Before buying, check the exact version on the label, and confirm the machine has an original MicroBT power supply and official firmware.
How to read the names
- WhatsMiner is MicroBT's brand, and M60 is the series. MicroBT's air-cooling operation guide says the M60, M60S, M60S+ and M60S++ "merely differ in performance and specification, such as power ratio, hashrate, and power on wall". They are the same in appearance, installation, operation and maintenance.
- S, + and ++. None of the MicroBT documents read for this guide define these letters. In the datasheets each step has a lower power ratio: M60 19.9, M60S 18.5, M60S+ 17, M60S++ 15.5 J/T.
- Power ratio is MicroBT's term for efficiency. J/T means joules per terahash, the same as J/TH. See Understanding J/TH.
- The T suffix is the hashrate of one version: 186T means 186 TH/s.
Published figures
Datasheets (per model)
| M60S | M60S+ | M60S++ | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power ratio | 18.5 J/T ±5% at 25 °C | 17 J/T ±5% at 25 °C | 15.5 J/T ±5% at 25 °C |
| Hashrate range | 170–186 T ±5% | 190–210 T ±5% | 200–226 T ±5% |
| Power on wall | 3,145–3,441 W ±10% | 3,230–3,570 W ±10% | 3,230–3,570 W ±10% |
All three datasheets give the same values for the rest:
- Input: AC 220–240 V.
- Power cable: IEC C19, ≥ 16 A.
- Airflow: 350 CFM (cubic feet per minute).
- Working temperature: −5 to +35 °C.
- Size: 430 × 155 × 226 mm.
- Weight: 11.5 kg net, 12.6 kg gross.
- Network: Ethernet.
The datasheets and shop pages give no input current, power factor or noise figure for these models.
Versions on MicroBT's shop
| Version | Hashrate | Efficiency | Power on wall shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| M60S 188T | 188 TH/s | 18.5 J/TH | 3,478 W |
| M60S 186T | 186 TH/s | 18.5 J/TH | Not shown for this version |
| M60S 184T | 184 TH/s | 18.5 J/TH | Not shown for this version |
| M60S+ 200T | 200 TH/s | 17 J/TH | 3,400 W |
| M60S++ 218T | 218 TH/s | 15.5 J/TH | 3,379 W |
Each shop power figure equals hashrate × efficiency: 188 × 18.5 = 3,478, 200 × 17 = 3,400 and 218 × 15.5 = 3,379. The shop lists the power supply as P221B/P222B, AC 220–240 V.
Where MicroBT's own figures disagree
- The 188T is outside its datasheet. It is above the M60S datasheet's 186 T upper limit, and its 3,478 W is above the datasheet's 3,441 W maximum.
- The M60S++ power range is copied from the M60S+. Its datasheet repeats the M60S+ range of 3,230–3,570 W, but 200–226 T at 15.5 J/T works out to 3,100–3,503 W.
- Weight. The shop's specification table gives 13.5 kg; the datasheets give 11.5 kg net and 12.6 kg gross.
These figures are not yours to correct. Plan on whichever is less favourable.
Versions MicroBT does not list
Some listings name versions that MicroBT's shop does not list:
- M60S+ 208T. This is inside the M60S+ datasheet range, but MicroBT publishes no power figure for it.
- M60S++ 228T. This is above the 200–226 T range MicroBT publishes.
For either, ask the seller where the figure comes from, for example the unit's label or a test record, and what the power on wall is. Do not work one out yourself.
This site lists the M60S 186T, which matches a MicroBT shop version. Its pages for the M60S+ 208T and M60S++ 228T show a hashrate MicroBT does not list and no power figure, so ask the same questions there.
Cooling, heat and space
These are air-cooled machines with built-in fans. MicroBT's operation guide sets the environment limits for its air-cooled models:
- Maximum airflow: 350 CFM.
- Ambient humidity: 20–80%.
- Dust: below 0.5 mg/m³.
- Box: 560 × 240 × 365 mm.
Almost all of the power becomes heat: 3,400 W × 3.412 ≈ 11,600 BTU/h (British thermal units per hour) per machine. That is why these miners suit a ventilated garage, outbuilding or farm better than a living space. Because no noise figure is published, compare machines on like-for-like figures only. Bitcoin Mining at Home covers airflow, noise and heat for a home site.
Running cost, an illustrative example
energy per day (kWh) = power (kW) × 24
electricity cost per day = energy per day × price per kWh
cost per TH/s per day = J/TH × 0.024 × price per kWh
In the table below:
- Power. The 200T and 218T rows use MicroBT's shop figures. The 186T row uses 186 × 18.5 = 3,441 W, derived from MicroBT's published hashrate and efficiency; it equals the top of the datasheet power range.
- Electricity prices. $0.06 and $0.10 per kWh are illustrative inputs, not market rates.
| Version | Power | kWh per day | Cost per day at $0.06 | Cost per day at $0.10 | Cost per TH/s per day at $0.06 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| M60S 186T | 3,441 W (derived) | 82.58 | $4.96 | $8.26 | $0.0266 |
| M60S+ 200T | 3,400 W | 81.60 | $4.90 | $8.16 | $0.0245 |
| M60S++ 218T | 3,379 W | 81.10 | $4.87 | $8.11 | $0.0223 |
The daily bills are within 2% of each other, but the M60S++ 218T produces 17% more hashrate than the M60S 186T (218 ÷ 186 = 1.17).
Revenue per TH/s is the same for every machine on the network. The break-even electricity price therefore scales with 1 ÷ J/TH: an M60S++ breaks even at a power price 18.5 ÷ 15.5 = 1.19 times the M60S's.
Revenue depends on network values that change daily:
expected BTC per day = hashrate (H/s) × 86,400 × block reward ÷ (difficulty × 2^32)
Use the mining calculator for current values. It is a calculation, not a forecast.
For budgeting, allow for MicroBT's ±10% power tolerance: 3,400 W could be up to 3,740 W.
Electrical requirements
Voltage. The published input is AC 220–240 V:
- A US 120 V outlet is outside that range.
- In a US home, 240 V means a dedicated circuit.
- 208 V, common in US commercial buildings with three-phase service, is below the published minimum. Do not assume it works; get confirmation from MicroBT or the seller.
Current. MicroBT states the power cable rating (IEC C19, ≥ 16 A), not the machine's input current. Calculate it as current = power ÷ (voltage × PF), with PF (power factor) taken as about 1 because MicroBT does not publish it:
| Power | At 220 V | At 240 V |
|---|---|---|
| 3,379 W (M60S++ 218T) | 15.36 A | 14.08 A |
| 3,441 W (M60S 186T, derived) | 15.64 A | 14.34 A |
| 3,570 W (top of M60S+ and M60S++ datasheet range) | 16.23 A | 14.88 A |
| 3,927 W (3,570 W plus 10% tolerance) | 17.85 A | 16.36 A |
Under North American practice (NEC), a continuous load is commonly limited to 80% of the breaker rating. A 20 A circuit therefore carries 16 A continuously:
- The first two rows fit inside that at either voltage.
- The 3,570 W row exceeds it at 220 V.
- The tolerance row exceeds it at both voltages.
A qualified electrician decides which figure governs and installs the circuit, conductors and receptacle to local code. Plug each miner directly into a correctly rated outlet or PDU (power distribution unit), never an extension lead or power strip. See 220V Bitcoin Mining and Bitcoin Miner Power Requirements.
What to check before buying
- Exact version. The model and hashrate on the unit's label should match the listing. Compare them with MicroBT's shop versions and datasheet ranges.
- Power on wall. Ask for the power and efficiency of that exact unit. If it is a version MicroBT does not list, ask where the figures come from.
- Power supply. The power supply is a separate unit screwed to the miner's case, and the shop lists P221B/P222B for these models. MicroBT's warranty terms exclude damage caused by unofficial accessories, including power supplies.
- Firmware. Ask what firmware is installed. MicroBT's terms also exclude damage from unofficial software and from changing operating parameters such as overclocking. MicroBT's WhatsMinerTool handles firmware upgrades and pool settings.
- Labels and serial number. MicroBT's warranty excludes units with altered or removed labels or serial numbers. Its shop states a one-year warranty period for the units it sells, so ask the seller how warranty applies to yours.
- Your site. Confirm voltage, circuit and ventilation before delivery.
