Hydro-Cooled Bitcoin Miners

High-density miners cooled by liquid circulating through cold plates. They deliver more hashrate per unit and per square metre, and require a coolant loop instead of airflow.

What hydro-cooled miners need from a site

A hydro miner has no fans moving air across its chips. Coolant flows through cold plates on the hashboards and leaves the machine carrying the heat. The miner is one part of a loop that must also include:

  • Circulation: pumps sized for the combined flow of every machine on the loop. A product page lists the coolant flow rate and maximum pressure where they are stated for the model.
  • Heat rejection: a dry cooler, cooling tower or plate heat exchanger that returns coolant at or below the specified inlet temperature.
  • Coolant quality: manufacturers specify the permitted coolant (commonly deionised water or an antifreeze mix) and its condition. Coolant outside specification causes corrosion and blockage and can void warranty.
  • Electrical supply: hydro units are typically three-phase machines drawing several kilowatts each. Check voltage and phase on the product page.

Most hydro deployments are built as racks or containers engineered around a specific model's flow, pressure and connector type, which is why hydro miners are usually bought together with their cooling infrastructure.

Why operators choose hydro

Liquid removes heat far more effectively than air, so hydro machines pack more hashrate into each unit, run much quieter, and are less sensitive to hot ambient air and dust. The heat leaves the site as warm liquid, which can be reused. The trade-off is higher infrastructure cost and plumbing that must be designed and maintained properly.
