MicroBT WhatsMiner M50 Series

The WhatsMiner M50 series is MicroBT's Bitcoin miner generation released in April 2022 on a 5nm chip process; the M50, M50S, M50S+ and M50S++ listed here are its air-cooled models.

19 models from 1 manufacturer · 110–162 TH/s · 21–30.1 J/TH

19 miners

What the generation covers

MicroBT's own shop files these four models under its "M50 Series" filter and lists them as air-cooled. It rates the M50 at 124 TH/s and 28 J/TH, the M50S at 124 TH/s and 26 J/TH, and the M50S+ at 148 TH/s and 23 J/TH. The M50S++ comes in grades from 154 to 160 TH/s at 22 J/TH, plus 160 and 162 TH/s grades at 21 J/TH. Across the models listed that is 124 to 162 TH/s and 21 to 28 J/TH. The generation also includes hydro-cooled (M53, M53S++) and immersion-cooled (M56S++) models, which are not listed here.

How the versions differ

Each suffix lowers the energy per terahash: from 28 J/TH (M50) to 26 (M50S), 23 (M50S+) and 21–22 J/TH (M50S++). At the same 124 TH/s, the M50S uses about 7% less energy than the M50.

Announcement

MicroBT released the M50 series, starting with the M50S, M50 and hydro-cooled M53, at Bitcoin 2022 in Miami on 6 April 2022. The M50S++, M53S++ and M56S++ followed at Bitcoin2023 in Miami on 18 May 2023.

Choosing within the WhatsMiner M50 generation

Models in one generation share a chip platform but differ in cooling type, hashrate and efficiency. Start with the cooling type your site supports, then compare efficiency and power draw between the versions listed above. Use the compare checkboxes to put two to four models side by side.
