What the generation covers

Canaan's annual report gives the A16 series a 2025 release year, a computing power of 286–300 TH/s and a power efficiency of 12.8–13.8 J/TH. The A16XP, the air-cooled model Canaan launched the series with, delivers 300 TH/s per unit at 12.8 J/TH.

How the versions differ

The A16XP sits at the high end of that range for hashrate and at the low end for J/TH. In 2026 Canaan said it was continuing to optimise the A16 series, concentrating on cost-effective air-cooled models and high-temperature water-cooled models.

Compared with the A15

Canaan rated the A15Pro, the most efficient of the four A15 models in its November 2024 line-up, at 16.8 J/TH. The A16XP's 12.8 J/TH is about 24% less energy per terahash.

Announcement

Canaan announced the Avalon A16 series on 28 October 2025 at the Blockchain Life 2025 summit in Dubai.
